Coordinate System Settings

The Coordinate System tab in the Settings window is for recording the coordinate system the team should use when importing data into the currently open Leapfrog Energy project. Settings made in this tab apply only to the Leapfrog Energy project that is currently open.

The Coordinate System setting is primarily an informational field. The project coordinate system should be set when the project is created and all the data imported into Leapfrog Energy should use the coordinate system that has been decided on for the project. Leapfrog Energy will not convert any data that is imported with references using a different coordinate system into the project coordinate system, nor does changing the project coordinate system perform a conversion of the data within Leapfrog Energy from the previous coordinate system to the new coordinate system.

There are four options for a Leapfrog Energy project’s coordinate system: Unspecified, EPSG, ESRI, and Well-Known Text. How to use these options is described in more detail below.

There is an additional setting, CRS warning options. If you enable this setting, a warning will be displayed if there is a potential coordinate system mismatch when projects are published or data is imported.

The Revert button at the bottom of the Settings window reverts settings to those in place when the Settings window was first opened. This includes changes made in other tabs, not just the tab you are currently in.

To apply any changes made, click Close.

Using an EPSG or ESRI Coordinate System

To record an EPSG or ESRI coordinate system, choose either EPSG or ESRI and then choose from the lists of available coordinate systems. You can filter both of these lists using the box at the top of the window.

If you want to use one of the EPSG or ESRI coordinate systems but with a different unit or datum from those available in the EPSG and ESRI lists, you need to use the Well-Known Text option. To do this:

  1. In either the EPSG or ESRI list, select the coordinate system that is closest to the one you wish to use.
  2. Click the Convert to Well-Known Text button. Leapfrog Energy will switch to using the Well-Known Text option with the information copied into the Well-Known Text box.
  3. Edit the information in the Well-Known Text box to make the changes you require. Leapfrog Energy will show an error message if the information entered cannot be validated.

Using a Supplied Well-Known Text

If you have been given a Well-Known Text to use to specify a local coordinate system, select the Well-Known Text option and paste the supplied text into the box. Leapfrog Energy will show an error message if the format entered cannot be validated.

Setting a Local Coordinate System With Only Units

If you want to specify a local coordinate system by defining the name and unit, you need to use the Well-Known Text option. To do this:

  1. Select the Unspecified option.
  2. Enter a name and set the units you wish to use.
  3. Click the Set Local Coordinate System button. Leapfrog Energy will switch to using the Well-Known Text option with the information copied into the Well-Known Text box.

Setting No Coordinate Reference System

If you do not wish to record a coordinate reference system for the project that is currently open, choose the Unspecified option. The other fields displayed when Unspecified is selected are not relevant to the Unspecified setting.
