Simplify a Surface

The Surface spreadsheet includes a dialog to simplify the model surface. Simplifying will remove redundant points from a surface or horizon. This reduces the number of calculations by reducing the number of surface segments to calculate. Points are redundant if they don't affect the direction of the surface when they are removed.

To Simplify a Surface

  1. On the Action menu, select Examine.

  2. Click the Surface to simplify. The Surface spreadsheet dialog appears.

  3. Click Simplify. The Simplify dialog appears.

  4. Set the Straightening Tolerance and units. A point will be removed from the line if the direction of the line segment deviates by less than this amount when the point is removed.

  5. Click OK. You are returned to the Surface spreadsheet.

  6. Click OK. You are returned to the model.
