Design Survey

Use the Coordinates > Design Survey or the Geochem Import > Design Survey menu options, (geogxnet.dll(Geosoft.GX.Geochemistry.DesignSurvey;Run)*), to create location data for a new ground survey. This tool enables you to plan a soil (or other type of geochemical) survey, laying out proposed lines and stations for sample collection. Plan a new or proposed geochemical sampling survey by defining line direction, line spacing, sample spacing, and QA/QC samples.

Design Survey dialog options

Dataset name

Enter a name for the database.

Define extents

Define the extents from a Polygon file or by manually entering the limits of a bounding box.

Starting point

This option is available when defining the extents from a PLY file. If enabled, the X and Y fields are automatically populated with the starting point in the PLY file. The values in the X and Y fields can be changed to a different starting point. If the starting point is outside the polygon, then it is used as the starting point. However, the next point inside the polygon (based on line and sample spacing) is the one that appears in the GDB.

Coordinate System

Set a coordinate system of the survey. Coordinate system is automatically populated if the polygon has a defined coordinate system. Geographic coordinate system is not supported.
Lines

Number of lines

The number of survey lines. This field is optional.

Line azimuth

Angle of the line azimuth clockwise from north.

Line spacing

Distance between adjacent lines.

Initial line number

The line number used for the first line in the database.

Increment

The value at which line numbers increment in the database.

Alternate line directions

This option allows survey plans to be created in which adjacent line numbers are sampled in opposite directions.
Samples

Sample spacing

Distance between samples along the line.

Initial sample number

Sample numbers are sequential and can have a alphanumeric prefix and a number counter. (e.g. ABCDEF1234567890)

Add QA/QC samples

If Add QA/QC samples is enabled, you can define standards, duplicates and blanks for the output database. If this parameter is not enabled, QA/QC samples are not added to the output database.

Application Notes

*The GX tool will search in the "...\Geosoft\Desktop Applications \gx" folder. The GX.Net tools, however, are embedded in the geogxnet.dll located in the "...\Geosoft\Desktop Applications \bin" folder. If running this GX interactively, bypassing the menu, first change the folder to point to the "bin" folder, then supply the GX.Net tool in the specified format.

Output

The Survey Locations will be populated and a Geosoft database file generated with the relevant surveying information including lines, coordinates, and sample numbers.

Add QA/QC Samples

QA/QC samples can also be added while creating location data for a new ground survey. For more information, see Design Survey Tool - Add QA/QC Samples.
