Plot Symbols (SYMBOLS GX)
The most basic type of symbol plotting in Oasis montaj is to draw symbols on a map at all data points along all selected lines in a database.
Use the Location Plot option (SYMBOLS GX) from the Map Tools > Symbols menu to quickly plot symbols. Specify the following:
- Symbol
- Size (mm)
- Weight
- Line colour
- Fill colour
- Grouping
The option is also available with the Grav/Mag Interpretation extension under the menu Euler 3D > Plot Solution Symbols.
Location Plot dialog options
Mask channel |
Select a mask channel from the dropdown list. If the use of the mask channel is enabled, and set to this channel, only those data values whose corresponding mask channel value is not a dummy will be plotted or exported. Channels must have their CLASS attribute set to MASK to appear as selections in the drop-down list. If the mask channel does not exist, it will be created with its CLASS attribute set to MASK. Script Parameter: SYMBOLS.MASK |
Symbol |
Select symbol number Script Parameter: SYMBOLS.SYMBOL |
Size (mm) |
Specify symbol size in mm. Script Parameter: SYMBOLS.SIZE |
Weight |
Select symbol weight Script Parameter: SYMBOLS.WEIGHT |
Line colour |
Select symbol colour Script Parameter: SYMBOLS.LINE_COLOR |
Fill colour |
Select fill colour Script Parameter: SYMBOLS.FILL_COLOR |
Grouping |
Grouping in the plot. If Group by line/group is selected, then symbol attributes can only be edited for entire lines or groups. If Individual symbols is selected, the symbols can be edited individually. The former selection is the default, and will be faster, especially for very large data sets. Script Parameter: SYMBOLS.GROUP (0: Individual, 1: Group (default) |
Application Notes
Plotted data is masked to the current data view’s clip region. Data outside the clip region is still written to the map, but is not visible. To see this data, uncheck the "Masked to view" box in the Map Manager tool.
If you are plotting symbols to a data view that is not oriented in 3D, the current X, Y channels must be set in the database.
If you are plotting symbols to a 3D oriented view, the current X, Y and Z channels must be set in the database. Symbols plotted to a 3D oriented view are projected to the section plane irrespective of the section thickness.
