Annotate Longitude and Latitude Locations on a Map
In order to draw latitude and longitude locations on a map, the data view for the map must have a projected coordinate system associated with it. The map you are adding the annotations to must also be the currently selected map.
-
On the Map Tools menu, click Base Map > Draw Base Map The system will display the Draw Base Map dialog box.
-
Specify the layout settings to use for your map. For more information on these settings, click the
button. Click the Next button to continue.
-
The system displays the Figure Style Base Map dialog box or Full Map Style Base Map dialog box, depending on what you selected in the previous step.
-
In the Longitude, latitude annotations? box, select the type of line or symbol to use. You can also specify the annotation increment, line thickness and line colour. For more information on these parameters, click the
button.
-
Click the Next button to continue. The system will prompt you to enter a map title and a sub-title.
-
Click the Finish button to plot the basemap on the current map. The system draws the base map features and the lat / long annotations on the current map.
You do not need to use projection files. We have replaced this with the ability to assign projection information directly to the databases, grids and maps by storing the projections in an associated *.GI file.
