Vertical Derivative Filter
Use the Vertical Derivative option to apply a Fast-Fourier Transform Vertical Derivative filter to a channel.
The filter option is available with the following extensions and menus:
- Geophysics: 1D FFT > 1D Filtering
- Gravity and Terrain Correction: Moving Platform Gravity > Apply Single FFT Filter

Application Notes
The vertical derivative is commonly applied to total magnetic field data to enhance the most shallow geological sources in the data. As with other filters that enhance the high wavenumber components of the spectrum, it is often necessary to apply an additional low-pass filter to remove high wavenumber noise.
