Drillhole Hole Traces Tab - Hole Labels Advanced Options

Use this dialog to define advanced options for plotting labels on hole traces. Labels include the hole ID at the top and/or bottom of the holes, as well as depth labels plotted at the bottom of the holes.

Hole Labels Advanced Options

Font

Use the drop-down list to select the text font to used for the hole labels.

Size (mm)

Specify the font size of the hole labels in millimeters.

  • To select the colour of the hole labels, click in the box to the right of the Size (mm) box. The Colour tool will be displayed.
  • Hole ID Labels

    Offset (mm)

The distance to offset the top-of-hole ID label from the center of the collar. If left blank, this value is set automatically, based on the defined size of the collar and label font height. The label text is located and justified based on the Position selected below.

    Position

Select the position of the top-of-hole ID label with respect to the collar. By default, the ID label is positioned above the hole. This position is modified, based on the whether the Keep perpendicular to hole trace check box is checked or not (see below). The label text is justified based on the position selected to ensure the label always plots beyond the line joining the text to the collar, at the offset distance.

    Keep perpendicular to hole trace

If this check box is left blank, then the Hole ID label always plots horizontally, at the Position location specified above, oriented with respect to "up" on the map. However, if this box is checked, the location is rotated so that "up" is based on the direction of the hole trace, and the text is angled to be perpendicular to the top of the hole. If the hole trace is plotted in such a way that the collar label would be inverted (for instance on a plan map with the hole dipping to the north), the label is automatically flipped so it reads right-side-up.

    Plot label lines

If checked, a dotted line is drawn between the collar and the ID label. This is most useful if Overplot protection is enabled, and labels have been moved away from crowded locations.

    Overplot protection

If this check box is checked, then Overplot protection is enabled. In locations where many hole ID labels are plotted close together, the text can overlap, obscuring collar locations and other labels. With Overplot protection enabled, the labels are moved to a position on the plot where there are no collars or other labels. The joining label lines are adjusted and point back to the correct holes.

Overplot protection works best when only a few holes are crowed together. In very crowded maps this may produce a "hedgehog" effect, and a better strategy might be to reduce the number of holes selected, increase the map scale, or use a smaller label font.

Overplot protection applies ONLY to the hole ID labels.
