Select a Default Text Editor

For your convenience, Oasis montaj enables you to edit files interactively in the system. By default, the system looks for the Microsoft Notepad application (notepad.exe) in your Windows directory. However, you can customize your system by adding any text editor program that you use regularly.

Use the NEWEDIT GX  to select the text file editor that you would like to use to view and modify text files in Oasis montaj.

Specify the program to use when editing (e.g., notepad.exe).

You must either specify the full path name or use the browse tool (recommended) to locate the editor file.

  • Once specified, the editor file name is saved as the default 'Text file editor' in the General Settings dialog (Project > Settings >  General).

    • Application Notes

    You may wish to use the Microsoft WordPad program (wordpad.exe), which is more advanced than Microsoft Notepad. This program supports editing of normal ASCII files and RTF files (Rich Text Format). RTF files are useful for comment blocks and may include drawings and bitmaps. The program location is '%SystemDrive%/Program Files/Windows NT/Accessories/WordPad.exe'.

  • Do not use the Microsoft Write (write.exe) program. This program only runs the WordPad program and terminates. This will cause a problem with some GXs that need to wait for the editor to terminate before continuing. Because the Write program terminates as soon as the WordPad program is launched, the GX deems that editing is complete and continues.
