Grid Value
Using your cursor, you can quickly see the value of any point on a grid, as you track your cursor grid values in real time. Use the Grid Value context menu option to display the grid value at a specific location on a grid or map window. The grid value will be updated and displayed in the lower right corner of the status bar.
To track cursor grid values in real time:
-
With a grid open and in view, either in a Grid window or in a Map window, right-click and select Grid Value from the context menu.
In a map, if more than one grid layer (aggregate) is present in the Data view, or if the selected layer is composed of multiple grids, each grid will be listed as a separate menu item under the Grid Value option. Select the entry for which you want to obtain grid values, and ensure the grid layer is visible.
-
The grid value, at the cursor location, will be reported in the lower right section of the status bar:
- After completing the tracking of cursor grid values, right-click again and select Done. The grid values will no longer be tracked or displayed in the status bar.
Application Notes
The grid value obtained at any point on a map is dependent on the display (rendering) mode of the grid, which is controlled by the Smoothing button located on the Grid Viewer toolbar or the Map Manager toolbar of your grid or map, respectively:
-
"Smoothed" display: the grid is interpolated to a smooth image at the screen resolution. Click here for details on how the grid value is obtained.
-
"Pixelated" display: the grid resolution is honoured and the image appears pixelated. Click here for details on how the grid value is obtained.
