New Geostring for Geological Feature Interpretations

Use the New Geostring option from the Map Tools menu or the Section Tools menu, (geostringsui.dll(GeostringsUI.DigitizationSettings;RunNewMode)*), to create a new geostring file that will store the interpretations you digitize on your drillhole section maps.

Output geostring name

The name of the new geostring file (.geosoft_string assumed).

Coordinate system

The coordinate system for the geostring is set based on the coordinate system of the current database or drillhole project. A geostring can have an undefined (* unknown) coordinate system or a projected coordinate system; it cannot have a geographic coordinate system.

Use the Coordinate System button to specify another projection for the geostring.

Features to digitize

A list of features in the geostring.

Add new feature

Use this option to add a new feature (rock type, fault, etc.) to the geostring. More than one feature can be added to the same geostring file.

Edit selected feature

Use this option to edit a selected feature in the Features to digitize list. Editing a feature allows you to change its name, colour, digitization type and description.

Delete selected feature

Use this option to delete a selected feature in the Features to digitize list.

Application Notes

Once the geostring file has been created, use the Geostrings Toolbar to digitize your geological interpretations on section maps.

More than one feature can be added to a geostring file, but a single feature can only contain interpretations of one feature type - polygon or polyline.

A geostring file can contain a combination of polygon and polyline features.

*The GX.NET tools are embedded in the geogxnet.dll file located in the \Geosoft\Desktop Applications\bin folder. To run this GX interactively (outside the menu), first navigate to the bin directory and provide the GX.NET tool in the specified format. See the Run GX topic for more guidance.
