Create Section(s) from Plan Map - Slices

Use this tab to plot a slice from a Voxel or 3D DXF, 3D Shapefile, or Geosoft Geosurface on a Plan or Section map.

Voxel Slices

Plot voxel slice

Check to enable/disable the plotting of a voxel slice on either a Plan or Section map.>

File name

The name of the voxel file. Click the Browse button and the Select voxel file dialog will be displayed. Use this dialog to locate and select a previously created voxel file.

Cell size

Specify the cell size. If no cell size is specified, then the minimum voxel cube cell sizes in X,Y and Z are used. (The voxel cell dimensions can vary over the model, and need not be the same in X,Y and Z). For instance, for a vertical N-S (parallel to Y) slice, the default "X" cell size for the grid is equal to the minimum voxel "Y" cell size, and the "Y" cell size for the grid is equal to the voxel "Z" cell size. In other words, the output grid cell sizes in X and Y are adjusted to preserve the discretization of the voxel, dependent on the angle that the slice intersects it.

Colour zones File name

Select the colour scheme for rendering the image of the plots. If you mouse over the colour scheme entry, a tooltip will display the name of the colour table in its folder. To modify the selection, click on the colour entry and then navigate through the scheme categories.
Vector Slices

Plot 3D vector file slice

Check to enable/disable the plotting of a 3D vector file slice on either a Plan or Section map.>>

File name

The name of the 3D vector file, this can be either a 3D DXF, 3D Shapefile or Geosoft Geosurface. Click the Browse button and the Select 3D vector file dialog will be displayed. Use this dialog to locate and select an existing DXF file, shapefile, or geosurface that has 3D locations.

Style Options

Colour: Retain colour, or specify the Line and Fill colour and style to use.

  • Shapefiles do not include a retained colour.
  • Fill: If the slices intersect closed polygons, you can choose to Fill polygons or display Outlines only. Click Edit to make changes to the selection for any 3D vector file.

    Plot Options

Select to Plot front, centre, and back slices where the vector files intersect the front, centre line, and back of the section, or Plot centre slice only. If front and back are included they will be deselected in the output and must be toggled on manually.

    Application Notes

The voxel slices are extracted along the central plane of the plan or section being plotted. For a plan map, this is the center elevation.

For 3D DXF vector files, the intersection of the DXF and the section (or plan) plane will be computed and a polygon feature class of that intersection will be added so that it displays correctly into the oriented data frame. There is also a Front & Back slice, corresponding to the front and back of the section thickness, respectively.

  • Since DXF files do not store any coordinate system information within the file, only DXF files whose coordinate system matches that of the drillhole project currently in use should be imported using this option. 3D Shapefiles do not get sliced, but the whole shape is projected on to the plane of the map.
