Use this tab to specify how patterned bands of text data will be posted to your map.

Pattern Bands – Text dialog options

Plot Parameters

Left side

Select to plot pattern bands of text data on the left side of the hole trace.

Right side

Select to plot pattern bands of text data on the right side of the hole trace.

Offset (mm)

Specify the offset of the pattern bands of text data from the hole trace, in map sheet units (millimetres).

Band width (mm)

Specify the width of the band , in map sheet units (millimetres).

Depth Ticks

Plot depth ticks

Check to enable/disable depth ticks. In contrast to the depth ticks defined in the Hole Traces tab, these depth ticks mark the boundaries of the From-To intervals of the data (actually the "From" and "To" locations themselves).

Left side

Select to plot depth ticks on the left side of the pattern bands of text data.

Right side

Select to plot depth ticks on the right side of the pattern bands of text data.

Length (mm)

Specify the length of the depth ticks in map sheet units (millimeters). The ticks are plotted on the left side of the hole trace for "left" stereonet plots, or on the right side otherwise.

Thickness (mm)

Specify the thickness of the depth ticks in map sheet units (millimeters).

To select the colour of the depth ticks, double click in the box to the right of the Thickness (mm) box. The Colour Tool will be displayed.

Patterns

Text Value

Select text value available in the drillhole project from the drop-down list. The selections include the text values from the selected channel on the Data tab.

In addition to selecting from items in the list, you may specify text using wildcard characters. Use an asterisk "*" to match any number of characters, or a question mark "?" to match a single character. For instance the code "A*" will select all text beginning with the letter "A". Matches are insensitive to the case of text.

  • To select the pattern attributes of the pattern bands, click in the box to the right of the selected text value. The Pattern Attributes tool will be displayed.
  • Or Text Value

Select additional text value available in the drillhole project from the drop-down list. Items matching either text value will then be selected. This additional text value will have the same colour pattern as the previous text value. These values may also include wild card characters.

  • To select the pattern attributes of the pattern bands, click in the box to the right of the selected text value. The Pattern Attributes tool will be displayed.
  • More

    Previous

Move to the next 16 or previous 16 patterns in the list. The More button will not be available unless all the pattern bands on the current page are defined.

    Save

Click the Save button. The Select Rock Code File Name dialog is displayed. Specify the name of your new rock code file in (*.csv) format. When saved as a rock code file, the optional second "or" text is not saved, and no description field is written. Wild cards remain valid, however. The Save button is a simple way to begin a rock codes file, which may be edited using the rock codes editor.

    Application Notes

Pattern Bands for Text and Rock Codes

Pattern bands for rock codes and text are similar. Brief descriptions of how they can be applied are provided below:

Pattern-Bands: Text - This is intended for special cases where the user wishes a few regions based on a small number of text matches. It allows "double" matches - e.g. All strings matching "ABC*" OR "XY%" plot as a given pattern. There are no descriptions for these matches. The user does not need to specify a rock codes file or list, so the source channel could contain a completely different kind of string data. Should the user require, selections made in this section can be saved as a rock code file for the Rock-Code text bands, but of course, only the first of the two match strings in each item, and no description, would be saved.

Pattern-Bands: Rock Codes - The user-defined parameter is the rock codes file itself, so the user is restricted to matching values, which appear there (although he or she could edit and append items as required). A single text string matches against a single pattern (wild cards will still work). Each code has a description that is printed in the legend.
