Mathematical Expressions

The ability to create, save, load, and execute math expressions in Oasis montaj is available through the standardized Math Expression Builder tools. Each tool features a unified tabbed dialog that displays all available keywords for the respective data type.

The Math Expression Builders are intuitive tools designed for building expressions that operate on channels (1D data), grids (2D data), and voxels (3D data). These tools use standard algebraic notation—a combination of keywords, including functions and operators—that allows you to calculate or modify the values of variables such as channels, grids, or voxel data.

For more detailed information on each Math Expression Builder, follow the links below:

See also the topic Rules for Defining and Applying Mathematical Expressions for a description of the expression syntax, operator precedence, variables, numeric data types, placeholder values (dummies), and functions applicable across channels, grids, and voxels.

Scripts

If you frequently perform the same task in Oasis montaj, you can streamline your workflow using scripts. Geosoft scripts are ASCII files that contain a series of commands grouped into a single file, allowing you to automate complex tasks.

Common uses for scripts include:

  • Automating complex or repetitive workflow

  • Creating standard map layouts

  • Running Oasis montaj functions from the DOS command prompt

  • Processing large volumes of data overnight

These scripts function by recording actions performed on a dataset. When executed, the recorded commands are applied to the specified project data. You can run scripts interactively within Oasis montaj or from the command line using the Geosoft Scripts Processor (OMS.EXE).
