Template Files

Import templates (.i3, .ii3, i4, .ii4 files) contain all of the import parameters including data source type (Text, Access, Excel,ODBC etc), data source location, and the type of data (Collar, Survey, From-To, Point), so these values do not need to be specified again. These templates are useful to re-import data using the same settings, or to import new data with the same formatting.

Template files are automatically created and saved on your file system when any of the Drillhole import tools are run. If this is the first time importing drillhole data, it is unlikely you will have any template files. If you have previously imported drillhole data, either in Target for ArcGIS Pro or in another Geosoft software, there may be template files available for you to use.

Drillhole data can be imported in two ways, either with or without template files:

  • If templates are provided: the data source and the type of data (Collar, Survey, From-To, Point) specified in the template files will be used to import the drillhole data. If multiple templates are specified, the import will proceed on each template in turn, with the collar table (if present) processed first.
  • If no import templates are provided: the import wizard ('Drillhole Import') will be produced to dynamically select the data source and the type of data to be imported. When the import wizard is used, template files containing information about the source and type of data to be imported, will be created first and then used to import the data. The template name uses the import file name, with the extension "i3" (Text files) or"i4" (Excel or Access files) .
