Import Meshes from OMF File

Summary

Imports subsurface triangulated mesh datasets from a selected Open Mining Format (OMF) file as multipatch feature classes in a feature dataset.

Usage

What is OMF?

The Open Mining Format (OMF) is an open geoscience exchange format for sharing 3D geospatial data within the mining industry. OMF provides a common file format for mining software, and allows files to be easily imported or exported between programs. It is specifically designed to represent spatial objects, such as drillholes, block models and surfaces.

The Open Mining Format offers:

  • The ability to easily share data between software packages.

  • The capacity for companies to seamlessly share data internally or externally.

  • A more streamlined and efficient approach that eliminates manual or convoluted transfer processes.

Parameters

Parameter Explanation Data Type

Input File

The input OMF file. Only triangulated meshes are currently supported for import from OMF files.

OMF (.omf) file

Output Feature Dataset

The output feature dataset name. Triangulated mesh data from the OMF file is imported to a multipatch feature class in the current geodatabase.

Coordinate System

The coordinate system (CS) to be used to spatially reference the imported drillhole data. Click on the Select coordinate system button to select the appropriate CS from the available options, or add a new one.

Import triangles as strips

This determines if the import will convert triangles into a list of strips:

  • Unchecked - The data will be imported as individual triangles. This means a faster import, however, reduced performance in rendering the surfaces.

  • Checked - The data will be imported as triangle strips. This means improved performance in rendering the surfaces but a slower import.
