Manage Sections
Summary
The Manage & View tab of the Section Tool can be used to manage and control the display of the cross sections that are saved in the current drillhole dataset.
Usage
When the Manage & View tab is active, all the sections in the current dataset will appear in the Sections list.
The sections are displayed as outlines (i.e. their extents are shown as outline boxes) on the current map or scene; the section names will appear as labels. Use the Manage & View tab to:
-
Control which sections are visible on maps and scenes.
-
Sort sections by one of the available options.
-
Change the order of individual sections relative to others (top, up, down, and bottom buttons).
-
Rename sections (double click or right click to rename).
-
Delete one or more sections (click the Delete button or right click to delete).
-
Control the color of section boxes.
-
Show or hide the section names/labels.

Technical Notes
Overlay Layers vs. Graphics Layers
The ArcGIS Pro overlay methods have been used in Target for ArcGIS Pro to show the outline of section locations; however, there was an issue: they did not print.
With the introduction of "Graphics Layers" in ArcGIS Pro 2.6.0. (to learn more, see Work with graphics layers), the outlines can now be manipulated and printed. The Manage & View Sections tab of the Section Tool now uses the Graphics Layer in 2D (Maps) and the Feature Layer in 3D (Scenes). Why two different ones? That is because the symbology on the map looks different than on the scene. Note that inclined sections will be shown as a 3D box that has been flattened – with the top edges of the box in solid lines and the bottom edges of the box in dashed or dotted lines.
The Modify Sections tab still uses the "overlays", which means that you will see these changes 'over top' of the Graphics Layer. This is helpful, so that when modifying the extents of a section, users can see the changes in real-time in relation to the original section outline.
