Import Data Package

Summary

Extracts and imports a zipped data package downloaded from a Geoscience Data Portal.  The tool opens automatically after you download data from a Geoscience Data Portal, or you can run it manually from the Add to Map section of the Target tab.

Usage

After you download spatial data from a Geoscience Data Portal, the Import Data Package tool opens automatically to help you import the data into your current Target for ArcGIS Pro project. All datasets in the package are unzipped and extracted to the Output folder.

Any Geosoft rasters (.grd files) are automatically converted to Esri raster datasets and saved in the selected geodatabase. Shapefiles are added to the current map or scene, but not to the selected geodatabase. All other data types (including ERS grid files (.ers)) remain in the Output folder and are not converted or added to the current map or scene. You can manually add ERS files to a map using ArcGIS Pro’s Add Data tool.

Parameters

Parameter Explanation Data Type

Download Package

The data package (.zip file) downloaded from a Geoscience Data Portal.

.zip file

Overwrite existing datasets

If any of the extracted files or datasets already exist in the output folder and file geodatabase, this determines if they will be overwritten, or not:

  • Checked - The existing files and datasets will be overwritten

  • Unchecked - The existing files and datasets will not be overwritten

Add layers to current map

Specifies whether supported datasets (converted rasters and shapefiles) will be added to the current map or scene:

  • Checked - Datasets will be added as layers in the current map or scene

  • Unchecked - Datasets will not be added as layers in the current map or scene

Output Folder

The output folder in which to store any datasets that get extracted from the data package.

Output Geodatabase

The output geodatabase in which to store the new dataset(s).

Only Geosoft rasters will be converted automatically; shapefiles will be added to the current map but will not be imported to the geodatabase.
ERS files can still be added manually using ArcGIS Pro’s Add Data workflow, but they are not automatically processed or imported from the downloaded package.
