Import Geosoft Surface File

Summary

Imports subsurface triangulated mesh datasets from a selected Geosoft Surface (.geosoft_surface) file as multipatch feature classes in a feature dataset.

Usage

What is a Geosoft Surface file?

Geosoft Surface files are 3D vector files created by Geosoft desktop applications such as Oasis montaj, Target or Target for ArcGIS. Surface files can contain the results of wireframing or isosurface creation. Third party triangulated mesh files (such as 3D DXF files and GOCAD surfaces) can also be imported to create Geosoft Surface files.

Geosoft Surface files store the following information:

Parameters

Parameter Explanation Data Type

Input File

The input Geosoft Surface file. Triangulated meshes are contained in Geosoft Surface files.

Geosoft Surface (.geosoft_surface) file

Output Feature Dataset

The output multipatch feature dataset name. Triangulated mesh data from the Geosoft Surface file is imported to a multipatch feature class in the current geodatabase.

Coordinate System

The coordinate system to be used to spatially reference the imported drillhole data. Click on the Select coordinate system button to select the appropriate coordinate system from the available options, or add a new one.

  • If the Geosoft Surface file contains a defined coordinate system, it will be applied to the output feature dataset and this field will be hidden.
