Decimating Models

GM‑SYS calculates the model response for each segment on a surface. Some imported model formats (e.g. seismic horizons, digitised models) contain more information than is necessary to model the gravity and magnetic response and will unnecessarily slow the calculation process.

The decimate function removes points which don't cause a surface to deviate by more than a specified straightening tolerance. CVTGMS uses a default value of 0.1 meter, but you may wish to try several values to get the effect you want.

For models which require snapping, we recommend that you "Snap" the model prior to decimating.

To Decimate a Model

1. On the Execute menu, select Decimate. The Decimate Surfaces dialog appears.

2. Specify the Straightening Tolerance.

3. Click OK. The dialog closes and the changes appear in the model.
