3D Inversion in GM-SYS 3D Modelling

GM-SYS 3D provides a wide range of inversion options including inversion for both layer structure and physical properties for gravity and magnetic data. All of the inversion options enable the user to constrain the area being inverted, set bounds on the range of results allowed, and filter the spatial wavelengths of the results. Inversion is performed using the Calculate menu.

The simplest inversion is the “structural” inversion which allows grid points on a single geologic horizon (a structure grid) to move up or down to minimize the misfit between the observed data and the calculated model response. The top surface of the selected layer is free to change during the inversion.

Inversions can also be performed allowing lateral changes in the density or susceptibility within a given layer. Those routines require that the density/susceptibility for that layer be defined by a layer, although the initial starting layer may be a constant (uniform) layer.
