Extract GM-SYS Profile Model from 3D Model

Use the Extract Profile Model from 3D Model option from the Display menu to extract a GM-SYS Profile Modelling model along a digitized profile across the 3D model. The model is automatically generated from the layer and survey information extracted from the model.

After it is created, the model is added to the workspace and may optionally be opened in GM-SYS Profile Modelling.

Before you begin, confirm a 2D Plan Map from the 3D Model is the current map.

Extract Profile Model from 3D Model dialog options

New profile model

Specify the name and location of the model to be created.

Open model in workspace

When selected, the new model will automatically open in GM-SYS Profile Modelling.

Application Notes

The endpoints of the digitized profile define the origin, azimuth, and horizontal extent of the initial model. Next, for each layer in the 3D model, a horizon is extracted and merged into the Profile model. New blocks created are assigned the appropriate properties from the layer in the 3D model. Profiles extracted from the observed survey data and elevation are used to populate the survey data in the profile model.

GM-SYS Profile Modelling only supports constant properties for blocks, so any layers in the 3D model that use more complex density or susceptibility sources will fall back to the constant property in the Profile model.

Due to differences between the GM-SYS 3D Modelling and GM-SYS Profile Modelling model structure, variable property distributions within layers are not supported in GM-SYS Profile Modelling. You may receive informational messages explaining the conversion from the GM-SYS 3D to GM-SYS Profile Modelling model structure.
