About Metadata

Metadata—data about data—is captured by Oasis montaj from the moment the data is accessed. This information, based on the ISO 19115 standard, is stored either within the dataset itself (if supported) or as a companion XML file. When you import or interact with data in Oasis montaj, the username, date, time, and all recorded actions are stored as part of the metadata. If new data is derived from existing data, the metadata is passed along, preserving the lineage of all processes performed in the Lineage section.

Viewing and Editing Metadata

Metadata attributes can range from simple to highly detailed, depending on the nature of the data. To accommodate this diversity, Oasis montaj provides the Metadata Viewer and Metadata Editor, which allow you to view and organize metadata across various Geosoft data types (databases, grids, maps, etc.). The content displayed is determined by the currently selected file.
