When working with datasets that are located beneath the earth's surface, it is useful to be able to view them from various angles. Use the View From tools in the 3D Navigation group on the Target tab, to orient your scene and view from different pre-defined view points.
When you select the Top drop-down menu, the observation point of the current scene will be set to directly above (looking down), providing a top-down (bird's eye) view.
When you select the Bottom drop-down menu ,the observation point of the current view will be set to directly below (looking up).
When you select the North drop-down menu, the observation point for the current view will be set to directly north (looking south).
When you select the South drop-down menu, the observation point for the current view will be set to directly south (looking north).
When you select the East drop-down menu, the observation point of the current view will be set to directly east (looking west).
When you select the West drop-down menu, the observation point of the current view will be set to directly west (looking east).
When changing the view location of the current scene (or clipping the scene to certain extents), you might want to enable the Animate Transitions tool in the 3D Navigation group on the Target tab, to see these changes as a sequence of animated movements.
When this tool is enabled (), and any of the 3D Navigation tools are exercised, the "camera" or point of view will zoom out slightly, pause, rotate (if necessary), and then zoom in to the new viewing location.
If the state of the tool is disabled (), the 3D Navigation tools will go back to the instantaneous view changing behaviour.
