Section View
Summary
The Section View tool in the Subsurface Tools section, can be used on 3D scenes to view existing sections and to "flip" through sections within the project. Section View can also be used in Layouts in ArcGIS Pro, to create a printable output map.
Usage
Enabling Section View on a scene has the following effects:
-
The 3D scene extents are temporarily clipped to the current section extents
-
The 3D scene is rotated automatically to view the section from the "front" (perpendicular to the section)
-
Any data layers in the current scene are "sliced" to the section extents
-
The Section View controls appear in an overlay tool to control the current section view
Parameters
Parameter | Explanation |
---|---|
Dataset |
Select the current drillhole dataset, if there is more than one dataset present. |
Section |
Select one of the sections that exists in the current drillhole dataset. The Up and Down buttons can be used to cycle or "flip" through all the sections in the dataset. The order of sections can be controlled in the Manage Sections tab. |
Scale |
Define the map scale for a section view. This will dynamically change the zoom level of the section view to the scale entered. In 3D, the scale refers to the camera's height above the ground elevation surface. See ArcGIS Pro Help for more information on Map scales and scale properties. |
View |
|
From |
Select one of the orientations to view the section from. Default is "Front", other options are "Back", "Top", "Bottom", "Left" and "Right". All View From angles are relative to the current section. |
Lock Camera |
Locks the position of the camera to view the section from the currently selected View From angle. You are able to rotate or move the scene, but the view will return to "section view" as soon as the mouse cursor is released. |
Perspective |
Toggle between Perspective and Parallel drawing modes. Parallel is preferred for section viewing and is the default. |
Clip |
|
To section extents |
Clip all layers in the current scene to the extents of the currently selected section. |
To section center |
Clip all layers in the current scene to the center plane of the currently selected section. |
Show |
|
Extents as box |
On the current scene, show the section extents as a red box. Only visible when Clip to section extents is disabled. |
Center plane |
On the current scene, show the section center plane as a colored rectangle. Only visible when Clip to section center is disabled. This option is on by default, and set to gray. |
Hole intersections with center |
On the current scene, show the intersection points between the holes and the center plane of the section. Optionally include the Hole ID and XYZ location as labels. |
Hole intersections with extents |
On the current scene, show the intersection points between the holes and the extents of the section. Optionally include the Hole ID and XYZ location as labels. |
Technical Notes
Section View is the primary way to view drillhole sections in 3D scenes. These section views can also be used on Layouts in ArcGIS Pro to create a printable output map.
