Clip Scene to 3D Extents

Summary

3D scenes in ArcGIS Pro normally have large, or global extents by default, even the Local Scene types. When using ArcGIS Pro basemap layers (e.g. satellite imagery, or terrain), these layers extend very far in all directions. It is sometimes easier to work with a local scene that has smaller extents defined and has the Layer clipping option turned on. Use the Clip Scene tools to achieve this.

Usage

Clip to Drillholes / Clip Scene to Drillhole Extents

• Select the Clip to Drillholes option from the Clip Scene menu to clip the extents of the scene to an area slightly larger than all the drillholes in the scene.
• A small buffer area is added to give a small border around the holes.

Draw Clip Area / Draw an Area to Set Clip Extents

• Select the Draw Clip Area option from the Clip Scene menu to draw a box to define the extents to use.
• The scene will automatically rotate the view angle to a top-down, bird's eye view before drawing.

Clear Clipping / Clear Scene Clipping

• Use the Clear Clipping option from the Clip Scene menu to remove any clipping applied to the current scene.
