Calculate Coverage Area

Use UXO Land > Data Preparation > QC QA Tools > Calculate Coverage Area option (UXAREA GX) to calculate the total area of coverage from a coverage grid.

Coverage grid

The coverage grid is a special grid created by the UXCOVERAGE GX. It is a grid with a cell size equal to a single survey "pixel" or "cell" in the survey grid. Each survey measurement is then located within the relevant grid square, and it is the total of number of measurements in each square that is stored by the grid. By default, this value is taken to be the same as specified in the UXCOVERAGE GX, which in turn defaults to "Coverage.grd".

Script Parameter: UXAREA.GRID

Area units

The units of area used to report the total coverage. Choices include square metres, square feet, square yards, hectares, and acres. The units for the grid itself are derived from the "X" channel projection, and the default is metres (m). The grid cell units are automatically converted to provide the area in terms of the chosen area unit.

Script Parameter: UXAREA.AREA_UNIT

Application Notes

This GX makes use of the coverage grid to calculate the total area of coverage by counting the number of grid cells with at least one measurement and multiplying that by the area for each cell. At the end of the process, the coverage area and the cell size will be reported in an informational message box ('Survey Coverage').

See Calculate Coverage Map (UXCOVERAGE GX) for details on the construction of the coverage grid and the creation of a colour scheme for plotting the coverage grid to a map.
