Convert Time Model to Depth Model

Convert the current Time model to a Depth model, using the block velocities to convert Time surfaces. This a one-way transformation that will completely overwrite any existing Depth information.

  • This process assumes that zero time is at zero depth. If that is not the case for your model, you can use CVTGMS to shift the Z-coordinates.
  • To Convert a Time Model to Depth

    1. On the File menu, Open your Time model.

    2. Confirm that velocities have been assigned to all blocks in the Time model. Use Edit Blocks to make any changes required.

    3. From the Profile menu, select Convert Time-to-Depth Surfaces. The converted model appears.

    Notes

  • The flat bottom of the time model is almost never flat when converted to depth. In this case, an additional horizon is added below the base of the converted model to put a flat bottom on the model. You should set the block properties for this additional block located below the bottom of the time model.
  • You may use Simplify to automatically remove redundant points using a user-specified Straightening Tolerance. You can also manually delete redundant points or use Decimate in CVTGMS to remove redundant points in one step for the whole model.
