3D Survey Mapping and Georeferencing

Use the 3D Survey Mapping and Georeferencing dialog to calculate the 3D geometry of the survey from 3 tie-points, consisting of Inline, Crossline and (X, Y) coordinate pairs.

The tie-points may be calculated from the trace headers, or specified explicitly by the user. The resulting volume orientation and spacing is calculated and displayed for verification.

Source of tie points

This is a contextual field; it displays the source for the tie points as specified in the 3D SEG-Y Coordinate Mapping wizard dialog. The text displayed is one of the two entries below:

  • Calculated from trace headers
  • User supplied

Output survey file

Browse or enter a new survey file name to store the mapping for use with another SEG-Y file in the same project.

First tie point

If the source of the tie points is “Calculated from trace headers", this row displays the Inline, Crossline, X, and Y coordinates of the first tie point calculated from the trace headers. If the source is “User supplied", the user must enter the four values for the first tie point.

Second tie point

If the source of the tie points is “Calculated from trace headers", this row displays the Inline, Crossline, X, and Y coordinates of the second tie point calculated from the trace headers. If the source is “User supplied", the user must enter the four values for the second tie point.

Third tie point

If the source of the tie points is “Calculated from trace headers", this row displays the Inline, Crossline, X, and Y coordinates of the third tie point calculated from the trace headers. If the source is “User supplied,” the user must enter the four values for the third tie point.

Spacing along Inlines

Read-only field showing the spacing along the Inlines calculated from the specified tie points.

Inline orientation

Read-only field showing the increasing inline direction calculated from the specified tie points.

If the SEG-Y file is configured correctly, this value should differ by 90º from the crossline azimuth.

Spacing between Inlines

Read-only field showing the spacing between Inlines calculated from the specified tie points.

Crossline orientation

Read-only field showing the increasing crossline direction calculated from the specified tie points.

If the SEG-Y file is configured correctly, this value should differ by 90º from the inline azimuth.
