Export to ASEG-ESF

Use the Database > Export > ASEG-ESF menu option (geogxnet.dll(Geosoft.GX.Database.ExportAsegEsf;Run) *) to export a Geosoft database to the ASEG-ESF file format.

Export to ASEG-ESF dialog options

ESF file name

Specify the name of the output ASCII ASEG-ESF file. This file contains a header defining the data type and a body containing the data. The header defines the mandatory fields. Each row of the body represents a specific sample, and each column represents a particular data field for that sample.

Script Parameter: EXPORTESF.ESFFILE

ESF data type

Select the appropriate ASEG-ESF survey data type from the drop-down list. This format covers the electrical survey types. If the mandatory channels for the selected data type are not present in the database, you will be given the option to take corrective measures (see the Heading Editor parameter below).

Script Parameter: EXPORTESF.DATATYPE

Channels to export

Select the channels to export as, Displayed channels or All database channels.

Script Parameter: EXPORTESF.CHANNELS

Lines/Groups to export

Select the lines/groups to export as, "Displayed line", "Selected lines" or "All lines".

Script Parameter: EXPORTESF.LINES

[Header Editor]

The data attributes are saved in the database and will be exported. Selecting the Header Editor button will display the header editor dialog, specific to the data type selected, which gives you the opportunity to either enter the missing mandatory attributes or edit the existing ones, prior to exporting to the ASEG-ESF format.

Application Notes

*The GX.NET tools are embedded in the geogxnet.dll file located in the "...\Geosoft\Desktop Applications \bin" folder. If running this GX interactively, bypassing the menu, first change the folder to point to the "bin" directory, then supply the GX.NET tool in the specified format. See the topic Run GX for more details on running a GX.NET interactively.

The ASEG-ESF format intends to cover all Electrical methods data formats. It is an ASCII fixed field flat file that contains a header and a body. The header fully describes the type of survey.

The description of the ASEG-ESF file format can be found here: https://www.aseg.org.au/sites/default/files/FORMAT_FOR_EXCHANGE_OF_ELECTRICAL_SURVEY_DATA_Ver001.pdf

  • If the data was initially imported using the ASEG-ESF importer and after some processing you would like to export the database to the same format, the initial heading information will be transferred from the database registry to the ASEG-ESF file header. If, however, the original data was imported using an importer other that the ASEG-ESF import, you will then be required to complete the ASEG-ESF header information.
