3D Manager
The 3D Manager window displays all layers in the currently open 3D View in a tree structure. Any layer added to the view appears in the 3D Manager list.
Use the 3D Manager to:
-
Edit raster, vector, and 3D layers
-
Rename or remove layers
-
Adjust appearance, transparency, and visibility of layers in the 3D view
3D Manager Layers
Layers in the 3D Manager are organized into two main groupings based on data type:
Planes & Surfaces: This grouping includes horizontal and vertical planes, as well as relief surfaces.
Raster datasets (grids) can:
-
Display on a plane
-
Plan grids display horizontally
-
Section grids display vertically
-
-
Define the surface of a plane (relief surface)
2D vector datasets (XY only, no elevation) can be displayed on a plane or relief surface.
3D Objects : This grouping includes datasets with true 3D coordinates, such as:
-
Voxels
-
Geostrings
-
Geosurfaces
-
3D symbols
-
Drillholes
Imported 3D datasets from other software (e.g., 3D SHP, LYR, DXF, Datamine, GOCAD, Gemcom, Micromine, Minesight, Surpac, Vulcan) typically appear here.
Displaying Layers in the 3D View
To add data to a 3D view:
-
Drag and drop one or more map groups (from plan or section oriented maps) from the Map Manager into the 3D Viewer.
When content is added:
-
If multiple planes exist, Oasis montaj checks for an existing plane with the same name as the data view:
-
If found, content is added to that plane
-
If not, a new plane is created
-
-
If the existing plane and source orientation are identical and a group with the same name already exists in the 3D View, the group is added with a numeric suffix (e.g., _1, _2)
Folders and Organization
You can organise datasets using folders and subfolders to control visibility.
-
Create folders by right-clicking a grouping
-
Default name: New Folder
-
Rename using F2 or double-click
Notes:
-
Folders are added to the top level of a grouping or within another folder
-
Folder hierarchy is limited to two levels
-
Only datasets within the same grouping can be moved into a folder
Dragging and Dropping
-
Drop onto a folder name to place items at the top
-
Drop within an expanded folder tree at a specific position
-
Dropping into a collapsed folder expands it, but preserves internal states
Folders can also be moved between parent folders within the same grouping.
The folder structure is not retained when dragging and dropping parent or nested folders between 3D views. Instead, the objects within the folders are added directly to the receiving 3D View, while preserving their individual selection states.
3D Manager Tools
The toolbar provide the following options:

|
|
Save Changes Save all changes made to the 3D view. |
|
|
Discard any unsaved changes. |
|
|
Add a new blank plane to the 3D view. |
|
|
Create a section view:
|
|
|
Available only when a geostring is present.

Available for selected layer/group types:
Not available for image grid layers. Click this button to activate the Colour Tool. The tool enables you to:
Also available as a context menu option when the button is active. You can select multiple layers or groups of the same data type and assign a common colour scheme and distribution to all selected items. The Colour Tool will then open, allowing you to further refine the colour properties and apply the changes simultaneously to all selected layers.

Smoothing Available when a grid layer or a data voxel layer is selected in the 3D Manager. This option is not available for image grid layers. Also available from the context menu when the button is enabled.
Click this button to toggle smoothing on or off:
This affects display only; the underlying data is not modified. You can select multiple grid or voxel layers and toggle smoothing on or off for all selected items. This option can be used with any of the Display options available in the Attributes tab. |

Data Types in 3D Views and their Attributes
The options available in the lower portion of the 3D Manager window depend on the currently selected 3D object type. Each object type has its own visualization and appearance attributes, allowing you to customize how data is displayed in the 3D scene.
Click the links below for more information about the available options and attributes for each type of 3D object.
