Configure a 3D SEG-Y File

The SEG-Y Config options allow you to set the configuration of a 3D SEG-Y file before processing. Your SEG-Y file may come with a loadsheet, which describes the survey.

  • There are many possible combinations of byte-order and trace storage format.  Use the TraceViewer to verify the file format.
  • To Configure a 3D SEG-Y File

    1. Under SEG-Y Disk Format pane, select the Header Encoding (EBCDIC or ASCII)) from the drop-down list.

    2. Select the Byte Ordering (Big or Little Endian) from the drop-down list.

    3. Select the Data Format (1-, 2-, or 4-byte integer, 4-byte IBM or 4-byte IEEE floating point) from the drop-down list.

    4. Enter the Samples per Trace.

    5. Under Trace Order, select Sequentially or By Field Value. If using Field Value, enter the values and click Apply.

    6. Under Trace Masking, select No Trace Mask or Trace Mask. If selecting Trace Mask enter the values.

    7. Under Shot Point, select the trace header to be used as the source of the shot point numbers and click Apply.

    8. Under Navigation, choose the source of the trace coordinates, or elect to display the traces sequentially with no coordinates or distances used – the data will not be projected.

    9. Under Vertical units, set the vertical interval and units.

    10. Under Inline/Crossline select the correct 3D Survey Orientation and 3D Survey Geometry options.

    11. You must enter Inline and Crossline spacings in ground units as they are in the SEG-Y file, not necessarily as they were in the original survey. If the SEG-Y contains only every 4th Inline of the survey, enter the spacing between Inline values in the file (e.g. Inline 1 and Inline 5).
