3D Manager
The 3D Manager window displays in a tree structure all the layers contained within the currently open 3D View. Any layers that have been added to the view will be visible in the 3D Manager list.
You can use the 3D Manager to edit raster, vector and 3D layers, to rename layers, remove layers, and to change the appearance, transparency and visibility options for any 3D layers displayed in the 3D view.
3D Manager Layers
3D View layers (as displayed in the 3D Manager layer tree) are organized into two groupings of similar data types:
- The first grouping, Planes & Surfaces, contains the horizontal and vertically oriented planes as well as any relief surfaces. Raster datasets (grids) can be displayed on a plane (plan grids plot horizontally in the 3D view; section grids plot vertically) or can define the surface of a plane (relief surface). 2D vector datasets (those with XY locations but no defined elevation values) are displayed on either a plane or a relief surface.
- The 3D Objects grouping contains all other datasets that contain true 3D coordinates (voxels, geostrings, geosurfaces, 3D symbols & drillholes). Any imported 3D datasets from other software packages will usually appear here as well (for example, 3D SHP, LYR, DXF, Datamine, GOCAD, Gemcom, Micromine, Minesight, Surpac, or Vulcan files).
Display Layer(s) in 3D View
When dragging and dropping map groups from plan or section oriented maps, begin by dragging a single group (or a selection of groups) from the Map Manager tool and dropping them into the 3D Viewer window.
When content is displayed in the 3D Viewer:

The name of the new plane is that of the source map’s data view.

If the 3D view contains more than one plane, Oasis montaj checks to see if a plane of the same name as the data view already exists and if so adds to it; otherwise, it creates a new plane with the data view name.

Assuming the existing plane and source orientation are identical, if the 3D View already contains a group of the same name, then it gets added to it with the same name but has a numeric value appended to it, i.e., _1, _2, etc.
You can control the visibility of multiple datasets by organizing them into folders and sub-folders. New folders can be added to each of the two groupings by right-clicking on the group name. The default folder name is "New Folder". To change the name of the folder, press the F2 key or double click on the entry. New folders are added to the top-most node of a grouping or a folder.
Folder hierarchy can only go two layers deep.
Datasets from the same grouping (i.e. planes and surfaces, 3D objects) can be dragged and dropped into folders by panning the cursor to the folder name (in which case they will always append at the top) or to any point in the folder tree, provided it is expanded. Dragging and dropping datasets into a collapsed folder will always expand the folder; all contained folders and datasets will retain their original collapsed or expanded state.
Folders, within the same grouping, can be moved out of their parent folders into either the main tree or another parent folder.
The folder structure is not retained when dragging and dropping parent or nested folders across 3D views; the objects within the folders are simply released into the receiving 3D View while still retaining the initial individual selection states.
3D Manager Tools
The buttons on the 3D Manager toolbar provide the following options:
Save Changes
Saves changes to the 3D view.
Discards changes made to the 3D view.
Click this button to add a new blank plane to the 3D view.
Click this button in order to create a section view. Position the reference plane where you want to create a section view. Drillhole planning tools are also available in this mode.
Only available when a geostring is present in the 3D Manager. The Wireframing Mode button will automatically be on when starting or continuing wireframing for a feature. Segments that can be included in the wireframe are bounded in yellow. Segments already in the wireframe are bounded in cyan. Click a yellow segment to add it to the wireframe surface.
Available when one of the following layers/groups is selected in the 3D Manager: grid layer (AGG_), data or vector voxel (VOX_), variable-coloured 2D symbols (CSYMB_), variable-coloured 3D symbols. Click this button to activate the Colour Tool. The tool enables you to interactively edit the colour display of the selected 2D or 3D group layer, to store your custom colour configurations in specialized colour scheme files (*.ITR, *.AGG, *.ZON, *.TBL, *.LUT), and to apply the colour scheme file to the selected layer.
Available also as a context menu option when the button is activated.
You can select multiple layers/groups of the same data type and assign the same colour scheme and colour distribution to all selected items. The Colour Tool will then open, and you can further revise the colour properties and apply the changes simultaneously to all your selected data.
Smoothing
Available when a grid layer or a data voxel layer is selected in the 3D Manager.
Available also as a context menu option when the button is activated.Click this button to toggle the "smoothing" option on/off:
- Turn on the option and the grid/voxel display will be smoothed interactively.
This is only a change in how the grid/voxel is rendered or drawn; there is no change to the underlying data.
- Turn off the option if you prefer to honour the grid/voxel resolution; the image will appear pixelated, and the colour will change at the actual grid/voxel interval rather than the screen resolution.
You can select multiple grid layers or multiple voxel layers and "toggle" on/off the smoothing option for all selected items.
The button can be used with any of the Display options available in the Attributes tab.

Data Types in 3D Views and their Attributes
The options available in the lower portion of the 3D Manager window are dependent on the type of 3D object that is currently selected. Each object has different visualization or appearance attributes that can be modified to create different scenes in 3D.
