Project Explorer - Geosurface Tools

The Project Explorer provides a set of tools for managing individual and multiple geosurfaces.

Open Multiple Geosurfaces, Import from Seequent Evo, Remove all Geosurfaces

To access these options, select the Geosurfaces node in the Project Explorer, then right-click and choose the desired action from the context menu.

  • Open Geosurfaces: Displays the Add New Geosurface(s) dialog, allowing you to add geosurfaces to the current project.
  • Import from Seequent Evo: Opens the Import from Seequent Evo dialog, where geosurfaces and other supported datasets can be imported from a Seequent Evo workspace into the project.

This option is available only if you are signed in with your Bentley account and your subscription includes Seequent Evo entitlements. It remains disabled if you are not connected to a Seequent Evo instance or assigned to a workspace within the instance.

  • Remove All Geosurfaces: Removes all geosurfaces from the current project without deleting the geosurface files from their location.

Geosurfaces imported from Seequent Evo will lose their Evo reference upon removal. If re-added, they will remain unlinked from Seequent Evo and will no longer display the Seequent Evo icon.

  • Find, Remove, Rename, Delete, View Properties or Metadata of a Geosurface, Export a Geosurface to OMF, Upload a Geosurface to Central

To perform additional geosurface-related tasks, expand the Geosurfaces node in the Project Explorer, select the geosurface name, right-click, and choose an option from the menu.

  • Find: Available when the geosurface’s source file is missing. The geosurface will appear in grey with a warning icon . Use this option to locate the missing file via the browse dialog. See Missing Data Files for more details.
  • Remove from Project: Removes the geosurface from the project without deleting the geosurface file from the file location.

A geosurface imported from Seequent Evo will lose its Evo reference once removed from the project. If added back to the project, it will remain unlinked and will no longer display the Seequent Evo icon.

  • Open File Location: Opens the Windows File Explorer to the geosurface file’s storage location.

Reload Latest from Seequent Evo: Updates the selected geosurface—marked with a blue status indicator — to its most recent version in Seequent Evo. Once successfully updated, the status indicator and its corresponding context menu option are removed. For further details, refer to the Reload from Seequent Evo section in Import from Seequent Evo.

Unlink from Seequent Evo: Removes the Evo reference from the selected geosurface, which is marked with a red status indicator . Once unlinked, the geosurface will no longer display the Seequent Evo icon. The status indicator and its corresponding context menu option are removed once the geosurface is successfully unlinked. For further details, refer to the Unlink from Seequent Evo section in Import from Seequent Evo.

This option appears if the geosurface's counterpart in Seequent Evo is no longer available (e.g., the geoscience object has been recycled from the workspace, the workspace has been deleted, or you no longer have access to it). To access this option, ensure you are signed in with your Bentley account and connected to the Evo instance where the geoscience object was removed.

  • Properties: Displays the Geosurface Properties dialog. Click the Stats button to view the Geosurface Statistics, and click the Modify button to alter the geosurface properties.
  • Metadata: Opens the Metadata Viewer for reviewing and editing metadata.
  • Export to OMF: Opens the Export Project to OMF dialog. The selected geosurface, along with any other grids, voxels, and geosurfaces from your current project, can then be saved as an OMF file.
  • Upload to Central: Opens the Upload to Central dialog to upload selected geosurface and associated files to a Central project.
  • Rename: Renames the geosurface in both the project and its physical storage location. Any associated auxiliary files will also be renamed simultaneously.
  • Delete: Removes the geosurface from the project's workspace and permanently deletes the geosurface file along with its associated files from their physical location.
